A individual indicted with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly left her a voicemail message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has persistently declared she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial indicted with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned phone records and data recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt repeatedly asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test during that period.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is among the most covered child disappearance cases and continues to be unsolved.

'I Do Not Need Money'

One phone message, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm heavy and not pretty like Madeleine was, but I know what I know."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording expressed: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am she? Then what? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"

"I don't want money, I have a living here in Poland, I just want to know," the message continued.

The jury was informed that via emails, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, transmitted early photographs to her phone in a attempt to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.

The investigator, a data specialist with the police force who compiled the information, advised the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also reached out to family friends of the McCanns, based on the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."

During that incident Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I won't give up and I plan to establish my position."

The court learned Mrs Spragg struck up a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a visit to the McCanns' property in the county in December 2024.

Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had communicated via messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had depicted Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she ought to be treated respectfully in the months preceding the visit to the village, the county, in last December.

The court was told message exchanges between the two accused, in November 2024, planning trying to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from cutlery at a eating establishment.

"We have to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the visit to their home, the defendant transmitted a message which expressed: "We're currently sitting adjacent to the McCanns' home with our lights out similar to investigators. I had hoped to accomplish this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."

The trial ongoing.
